RigidBody controller - Where to start?

Hello. I'm creating a third person game and now i'm setting up the character so i can start the game logic. To do this i'll use a rigidbody controller but unfortunately i don't know where to start it, so i would like to know if there's any kind of tutorial that shows the main functions that a controller like this should have and how to make them. As i said on other questions, i know how to program, but since this is my first Unity project i don't know how things will work later, so i'm trying to set everything the way it is suppose to before i go into the next steps of development, so that i don't bump into bigger problems later and also learn how to do it the proper way.
